Thank you very much for the opportunity to see our city 100 years ago as if we went there with your great-grandfather.

I inherited the original negatives and two leather photograpgh albums tited "Snap shots [photorgaphs] taken [photographs made] along the invasion route of an American Queen and her Court." The "American Queen" is the horse Lou Dillon, which was the first trotter to race a mile under two minutes. She was the most popular horse on the exhibition tour, but there were several other horses also. The albums have all of my great-grandfathers notes about the pictures he took [made].

These photos are very good clarity and quality of workmanship on them fashionable even looking at advertising inscriptions on the houses and shops. Your grandfather took pictures of many types of people on the streets in the heart of the city, and it is also very interesting. We are the third day all of our community, we admire your collection and do not get tired to thank you for such a generous gift to us. Excuse me for my english, I'm not very good to speak of them .

A museum here was impressed that he was able to take so many photographs of wealthy and poor people. He loved Russian people. Several years ago the museum had an exhibition of the photographs titled "Empire and Empathy - vintage photographs of Russia". Here is a letter I received from Mikhail Gorbechev's office about the museum exhibit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cranewoods/5214076621

Yes, he is absolutely right. We experience the same feelings of seeing those pictures, as if we were in Russia before the revolution.

He was arrested in Russia many times for taking the photographs. There is a magazine article written about the arrests, how his friendly nature got him out of tropuble, and the amazement that he was able to bring home the photographs.

He was a little adventurer and this feature gave him a good result. We have a wonderful photo!!

cranewoods  сказал 02 марта 2011, 21:07

I have the exhibit. Would Moscow like to have it?

I replied to you on this proposal in a personal letter on LiveJournal:)
